RIA goes to Volleyfest 2014

Thank you to all our teams who traveled this past weekend for representing us well and having at great time at Volleyfest in St. John’s.  The Senior Boys team finished 1-4 in Senior Male A losing some close games along the way.  The boys played well but never made the playoffs.  We were proud of them being the only small school in the A division.  The senior Girls went to tier 1 in Senior Girls ‘B’ but lost some very close matches in 3 games on Saturday eliminating them from playoff contention.  The girls played well and showed great spirit but came up just short; it was a fantastic effort!  The Junior girls went to tier 3 in the grade 9 and under division.  The girls played great on Saturday and ended up losing  in the semi-final in an extremely close match; it went to the 3rd game and went back and forth.  Our girls put in a great effort but but lost in the end.  Congrats to our Junior Girls for making the play-offs!

A BIG THANK YOU to our teacher sponsors and coaches for traveling with our teams this past weekend!  Mrs. Smith, Mr. Cook, Ms. Hansford, Ms. Parrott, Jordan Marsh, and Jordan Cooper.  This weekend wouldn’t have been possible without your efforts!

What A Fantastic Visit From The Marine Institute!

On Wednesday & Thursday of this past week, we were very fortunate to have the Marine Institute’s MI Ocean Net program visit the school. This program corresponds with the science curriculum outcomes through all grade levels and was a great educational experience for our students. Throughout the two days, students from K-12 built ROVs, learned about the ocean environment, and cleaned up a local beach. The 7-12 group was very fortunate to observe and learn about the green crab! This program was fully funded by the Marine Institute, and we will continue to work with them over the next few years to enhance the science curriculum in our school. RIA was the first school to host such an event. The students had a great day, and we are looking forward to more opportunities to work with them!  Thank you to Mrs. Smith for organizing this event and a BIG THANK YOU to Tiffany Martin of the Marine Institute for all her enthusiasm, energy, and hard work in giving our students a great two days!
