RIA Remembers

DSCN0120Random Island Academy held their annual Remembrance Day Assembly today.  We were very pleased to have members of the Newfoundland Rangers and the Random Lion’s Club, as well as many parents in attendance.  Members of the Random 567 Air Cadet squadron started our assembly with their entrance and then Devon Bowering laid the ceremonial wreath and we sang the Ode to Newfoundland.  Lisa Hart from the Random Lions made the Peace Poster presentations and then we were treated to a songs  from the Intermediate choir (Traveling Soldier)  and Mr. Blackmore (Willie MacBride).  We reflected on why we remember when Brianna Green read In Flanders Fields and Mr. Cook discussed the Act of Remembrance and the Commitment to Remember, and then taught us the history of the Last Post, the Moment of Silence, and the Reveille before we completed those important acts. We then watched a very emotional Remembrance Day video created by John Bowering, leaving many to wipe away the tears.  The Cru, our student band, then performed Highway of Heroes and we followed with O Canada to close the assembly.  Thank you to all the staff and students who worked hard to put this assembly together and thank you to all our guests for attending on this important day.

ON THE 11 HOUR OF THE 11 DAY OF THE 11 MONTH…

PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO REMEMBER!
