Just a reminder to parents and guardians to avail of the recycling initiative at the school – it’s a great way to help fund any school associated costs that you need to pay. Remember to inform the depot when you get there that you are donating to Random Island Academy (green team), and don’t forget to take your slip. Beer bottles can be returned, but there is no “match” on them.

RIA Comes Up Short At Boys Basketball Regionals

regionals

On Thursday Our Senior Boys Basketball team played off against Swift Current Academy for the chance to go to the SSNL A Boys Basketball Provincials. It was a great afternoon of basketball that saw two teams play very well in back to back games .  RIA came out flat in the first game and struggled with their offense against a tough SCA defense.  The final score was 53 – 34 in favor of SCA.  The second game was much closer as RIA pressed for the entire game and the score went back and forth until late in the second half when SCA’s size and skill took over;  they controlled the offensive rebounding and shot extremely well from the field.  The final score was 55 – 47.  RIA would like to thank Swift Current Academy for traveling to our school and displaying great sportsmanship and skill, and we would like to wish them all the best at Provincials.  For the second year in a row RIA earns the silver at Regionals, but showed great improvement and competitive spirit.  We would also like to congratulate Marcus Whalen who was selected as the sportsmanship winner for this event.  Finally, we wish to thank our officials, Vince Mulrooney and Jon Stone, our scorekeepers, our coaches Mr. Cook & Kenneth Dalton, and all our parent and student volunteers who made this event possible!  THANK YOU!!!
