Senior Girls Volleyball – 2A Provincials in Harbour Breton

Congratulations to our crusader team for putting up a great fight in the Semi-Finals of the SSNL 2A Girls Provincials this past weekend.  Unfortunately they ran into the host team with a lot of momentum and they fell short after a 3 game battle (18-25, 25-18, and 9-15).  Great effort ladies…you had a great weekend and made us proud!

Crusaders now 2-1 as they have just beaten Labrador Straits Academy (25-11, 25-11). RIA will now face the host team, King Academy, tomorrow morning in the semi-finals! Good luck and play hard Crusaders!!!

Our Senior Girls Volleyball team left yesterday for Harbour Breton for the SSNL 2A Volleyball Provincials.  They arrived safely and played their first match against Lakewood Academy (Glenwood) last evening.  RIA lost to the number 1 seeded Lakewood Academy team in 3 sets (18-25, 25-22, 8-15).  It was a tough first match but the girls played well.

They next face action today and their next two round robin games will be against Bay D’espoir and Labrador Straits Academy.  Good luck Crusaders!  Follow us on twitter for updates (@RandomIslandAcad) and check back here for updates!

It was another great evening at Random Island Academy as we had our 2nd annual Christmas Tree lighting and Christmas movie night.  We had a great evening of family fun and hot chocolate!  Mr. Blackmore officiated the event and our Student Council President, Ms. Brianna Green, did the official lighting of the tree.   Then our carolers, lead by Ms. Kia Power,  did a fantastic job of getting us into the Christmas spirit!  A big thank you to Mrs. Smith and her Student Council for organizing this great event, and thank you to the student council members and Mr. Adam Smith and Mr. Brian Ivany for getting the tree set up and decorated so nice!

Festivities then moved to the gymnasium as we had our family Christmas Movie Night.  We enjoyed Home Alone  (25th anniversary) and some popcorn and drinks.  Thank you to Mr. Cook and Mrs. Courtney Prince and the student Council for making this event a fun way to spread Christmas cheer.  Between the two events we were able to raise $168 for Christmas Wishes!  Thank you all who supported us in this endeavor!

There can’t be enough positive things said about the efforts of our Student Council.  They were simply fantastic!!! And, not only our Student Council…we had many other students pitch in and help set up and clean up and your efforts have not gone unnoticed!  All in all, it was a great night that showed how generous our students and entire school community are with their time and money.  Thank you all for helping us help others and start off this Christmas season right!

We hope to see everyone come out to our 2nd annual Christmas tree lighting and family movie night tonight.  There will be some Carols and some free hot chocolate for the tree lighting and then we will be showing Charlie Browns Christmas (50th anniversary) and Home Alone (25th anniversary).  There will be no charge for admission but there will be a donation can at the door.  We will also be selling bags of popcorn and drinks for a 1$ each.  All donations and money made from popcorn and drinks will go towards Christmas charity and the wish tree. It is a great Social Justice initiate for our school and we hope you come out and support it!  Thank you to Mrs. Smith and her Student Council for organizing this event!
