This past weekend a new Boys A Basketball champion was crowned at Random Island Academy. The Viking Trail Trail Blazers defeated the St. Catherine’s Eagles 90-88 in a nail biter that came down to the last 10 seconds of the game. Your Crusaders achieved their goal of making the playoffs as the went 2-1 in round robin play and tied for first in their division; they defeated eventual finalists St. Catherine’s, and Fitzgerald Academy and lost to Valmont Academy. The Crusaders ended up playing and being defeated by the eventual champions, Viking Trail, in the Semi Finals. The other semi-final saw St. Catherine’s defeat Holy Name of Mary.
The school was alive with basketball fever as fans from all over the province cheered for their teams. Our school community delivered some fantastic hospitality as everyone chipped in to make a lasting experience.
We have to thank all the student volunteers who did the score keeping, sweeping, selling tickets/water, working in the canteen, and everything else we needed from them. You guys are all fantastic!!! We also have to thank the staff at Random Island for your support and all you provided to the hospitality room. We have a BIG THANK YOU to the parents for their hard working in preparing for and working in the canteen and banquet, and getting the school back into shape after the tournament. This tournament wouldn’t have been possible without your efforts!!! We would also like to thank Ms. Power and Ms. Marsh for your help with the skills competition (among other duties), Mr. Blackmore, Mrs. Smith, and Mrs. Power for the opening ceremonies, and of course Sandy for everything…literally everything….tournament preparation, team registrations and taking so much time after hours helping us. Thank you to ms. Smith for giving up your weekend and taking care of much of the convening…couldn’t have done it without you. And a BIG THANK YOU to Mr. Cook and Mr. Mulrooney for your efforts in coaching the boys and giving so much time in preparation for and hosting of this tournament.
This tournament was a great demonstration of what our school community can do…and we have a great School Community!!!
