Back to School: Important Information

The time to head back to school is fast approaching, although the students of RIA will not be heading back when many other students in the province are; they will get a few extra days of summer.

Our school was selected to be part of Phase 2 of the Responsive Teaching initiative which will be focused on providing interventions to improve reading for struggling readers in K-6. Our school will avail of a reading specialist, a learning resource teacher and resources to help establish a learning commons – all intended to support the goals of the Responsive Teaching initiative.

Being a ‘phase 2 school’ means that our teachers will receive 2 days of professional development in the area of responsive teaching. So the first week of school will look like this:

  • First day of school for teachers is Tuesday, Sept 3
  • Wed & Thurs, Sept 4&5 – PD for all teachers
  • Friday, Sept. 6th – first day of classes for students

School Development – Parent Surveys

Dear Parent/Guardian,

School Development Surveys are conducted annually to gather feedback from students, staff, and parents/guardians to inform the school development process. The survey results will be provided to your child’s school and used with other data to identify the school’s strengths and challenges. Your child’s school will then create and implement a plan to build on successes and address areas of challenge.

The survey is anonymous, which means that we cannot connect your survey responses to you. We encourage everyone to participate so that we have the most accurate representation of family perceptions at your school.

The Family Survey will be available on February 11, 2019. Please complete the survey by March 15, 2019 by clicking on the following link:
